August Retailer - Mondo Cherry

mondo cherry creates artwork and greeting cards inspired by a love for both fabric and vintage papers. All their products share the same handmade love and attention to detail.

Their fabric range has two parts. The first consists of squares of beautiful fabrics that are hand beaded and then stitched onto coloured card to add texture, sparkle and definition. Made up into unique cards and colourful framed artworks, no two are ever identical. mondo cherry also uses interesting fabrics in their covered button range of artwork to create eye catching and one-of-a-kind designs. Recently they have included fabric with detail that they have printed themselves and plan to expand in this area.

The mondo cherry vintage paper range uses the many old and unloved children's books that they find in disrepair. Piecing parts of these colourful pictures to create whimsical designs ranging from matryoshkas and trees to animals and toys, they are then stitched to add detail, creating one-off cards and framed artworks. mondo cherry is also happy work on commission, to create artwork or cards according to your special request.

mondocherry is made up of two sisters and their Mum who have enjoyed the journey of creating a business from their natural love of craft, art and design.
mondocherry can be found through their website: mondocherry.com.au
They also have a blog: mondocherry.blogspot.com

In the work room...

Here I am deep into preparing work for the Boutique markets on Sunday at Portside 8am -1pm..... I've been playing around with cutting photographs into circles and making them into gift tags and greeting cards! So much fun and I really love the texture you get with the sewing machine stitching over the top.
See you Sunday!!

Designer in Focus - Bespoke Letterpress Boutique

1893 Chandler and Price - Letterpress

I mentioned a few posts ago, that I had begun the search for designers who possess the skills needed to successfully juggle the many aspects of small business and everyday life. Today I would like to introduce to Alischa Herrmann from Bespoke Letterpress Boutique, who creates the most beautiful hand printed couture invitations and stationary right here in her studio in Brisbane.

letter pressed Limited Edition Print - Turquoise

Alischa, a highly established Graphic Designer, foot treadles and hand prints her gorgeous designs one at a time, on her antique 1893 Chandler and Price Letterpress. Her range includes bespoke wedding invitations, and glorious stationary and paperie and is fuelled by her belief that letterpress should never become a dying art form.

Now Alischa may already be known to some, though only a newcomer to Brisbane, she is taking our little town by storm, with her gorgeous range but is now also creating gorgeous prints for the likes of Kylie Johnson from Paper Boat Press, an established Brisbane designer. Above is a sneak peak at the new Bespoke wedding collection - a gorgeous range of couture wedding gifts.....lovely!

She is also a graphic design teacher and a home renovator, and an all round nice girl!
Now, that is one impressive juggling act as far as I'm concerned! So hats off to you Alischa, one clever and crafty lady taking on the world of the letterpress one treadle at a time!

flight industries

These images are from gorgeous handmade cards by artist Sally Flynn of 'flight industries'. Water is a common theme throughout Sally's work and is often represented by several layers of textures or images, in the above cards the bold ocean inspired silhouettes sit on beautifully embossed papers which make reference to the wonders of nature like movement, clouds and ripples in the water. All of Sally's work is done in limited editions so this is a lovely way to collect little artworks at an amazing price!! To read more about Sally's artwork and upcoming exhibition please visit her blog, caffeinated prints.
