August Retailer - mimoo

Mimoo was created in 2008 after creator Tina, arrived back in Australia after almost a decade in the UK. With a newborn baby, Tina, wanted to create a range of products that had a fresh approach to much need baby items that would fit in with the accessories mums already had, using 100% cotton European and vintage inspired fabrics.

Mimoo only ever uses 100% cotton fabrics, including the very practical denim and all of her items are hand sewn by Tina and fully cold machine washable. Mimoo's products include plush padded play mats, baby swaddle wraps, stroller blankets, my unique nappy change mat wallet and a few new additions especially for the boutique markets.

mimoo will retail at next Sunday August 9th market.

August Retailer - Mondo Cherry

mondo cherry creates artwork and greeting cards inspired by a love for both fabric and vintage papers. All their products share the same handmade love and attention to detail.

Their fabric range has two parts. The first consists of squares of beautiful fabrics that are hand beaded and then stitched onto coloured card to add texture, sparkle and definition. Made up into unique cards and colourful framed artworks, no two are ever identical. mondo cherry also uses interesting fabrics in their covered button range of artwork to create eye catching and one-of-a-kind designs. Recently they have included fabric with detail that they have printed themselves and plan to expand in this area.

The mondo cherry vintage paper range uses the many old and unloved children's books that they find in disrepair. Piecing parts of these colourful pictures to create whimsical designs ranging from matryoshkas and trees to animals and toys, they are then stitched to add detail, creating one-off cards and framed artworks. mondo cherry is also happy work on commission, to create artwork or cards according to your special request.

mondocherry is made up of two sisters and their Mum who have enjoyed the journey of creating a business from their natural love of craft, art and design.
mondocherry can be found through their website: mondocherry.com.au
They also have a blog: mondocherry.blogspot.com

Boutique Markets sponsorship

Boutique Markets was proud to be a major sponsor of the Barracks Medical "Wellness and You" fundraiser held on Thursday at Iceworks at Paddington. Mardi Vory is the co-owner and principal GP at Barracks Medical and shares a passion for charity and not for profit organisations, as well as supporting our community through effective information regarding health issues.

Mardi's hope is that the evening, the first of a series of charity evenings, will encourage women to embrace all aspects of their well being....physical health, emotional health, intellectual health and of course the need to set aside time to relax and pamper.

Kim Wallace from Udessi - sponsored Canvas totes

The evening raised funds for the Gidget Foundation, a not for profit organisation which promotes awareness and support networks for women with Postnatal depression. Gidget Foundation was created by the sister and a friend of a young woman "Gidget" who committed suicide as a result of post natal depression. Her family and all those close to her were unaware that she was suffering so desperately until it was too late.

Renee Treml - sponsored a gorgeous print.

We were very fortunate to receive the support of some of our retailers through the donation of prizes for the multi draw raffle on the night. A very big thank you to the our generous Retailers.

Taryn Newland - printed canvas

Jamie Beattie - selection of handbags and accessories

Sandrine Marsh - scarflet and brooch

Bloomworks - Leanne supplied our guest speaker Catherine Knox from the Gidget Foundation with a stunning bouquet of flowers.
Thank you so much to our retailers who embraced this event through their donations and a special mention to Taryn who also secured a generous donation from her husbands company Cenovis as well. Overall we were overwhelmed with the support of the evening and are happy to report that over 120 people attended the night.

Coin Purse Tuesday...and the inspiration...

coin purse card $6.50 - Little Jane St

a few months back I decided that I would like to do a regular weekly feature on our blog, and with the 'current economic downturn' headlining the daily news, went looking for someway to present this doom in a positive light. I wanted to prove that with less than $10, you could still stumble upon great buys, and that you didn't have to spend a billion dollars to get a quality handcrafted item.
An avid reader of the Little Jane St blog, I spied one day, one of her gorgeous cards featured. A stunning sequined coin purse on it's front....and so the 'Coin Purse Tuesday' seed was planted. The weekly feature, presenting fabulous finds for under $10, or the equivalent of the spare change we all have lying around in the bottom of our coin purse.
So this month I was thrilled when Little Jane St came on board as a retailer at the Boutique Markets, and I could speak to creator Alarna about the origins of our Tuesday feature.

So thanks Alarna, for your lovely and inspiring little coin purse card!

It's official - our new marketplace is here!

"A unique shopping experience featuring some of the best local talent in art, craft and design located in one of Brisbane's premier riverfront dining and shopping precincts!"

The Boutique Markets (formerly known as the Designers Emporium) has recently found a new home at Portside Wharf in Hamilton, Brisbane. Since its inception in 2007 our market has grown in profile and size to become a hub of local creative talent which offers a unique shopping experience; boutique shopping in a market atmosphere. Our expanded market will now be located in the exclusive riverfront shopping and dining precinct of Portside on the second Sunday of each month, between 8am and 1pm.

Proudly supporting local independent design and craft, our market will host the work of more than fifty South East QLD -based stallholders including artists, designers, stylists, crafters and artisans. The market aims to promote and cultivate emerging local talent by offering a forum to promote and sell their work to the public.

This in turn offers design savvy shoppers unique access to high quality handmade and limited edition products not available elsewhere, direct from the region's thriving art and design community. As a locality Portside offers a great day out with an array of waterfront eateries, bars, cinemas, fresh food markets and retail shopping in addition to a first class international cruise terminal. The Boutique Markets offers a perfect compliment to the venue; it creates a festival style ambiance in the outdoor plaza. Spend the day meandering between stalls and stroll the waterfront promenade before enjoying lunch in one of the many restaurants or cafes.

The new Boutique Markets website and our new blog offers a portal to keep up to date on market events or to discover the stallholders which will be featured there. Be first in the know by signing up to our newsletter and stay tuned for some exciting special events and attractions which will coincide with the market day in coming months!
