Seasonal Friday....

This morning I've just had the pleasure of photographing the divine wares from Earthly Jewels!

Don't you just adore the colours, textures and individuality of them all.

Each piece is a one-off and handmade with care, so if you have a christmas party

SELVEDGE HOUSE

Have you seen these new bangles made by artist Sam Messina? They are made from old skateboards - I love all the layers of colours in these - they will go with almost anything in my wardrobe! Also available are brooches, buttons and pendants. You'll find them at the SELVEDGE HOUSE stall this Sunday at the Boutique Markets. This small business is run by Ellie, Sam and Danielle who sell all sorts of goodies including hand screen printed fabrics, home wares, totes, craft kits... just to mention a few! Jewellery Workshop with Liana Kabel

I was lucky enough to get to attend the Liana Kabel jewellery
making workshop on Saturday at the Ipswich Art Gallery.

One of my favourite Liana Kabel pieces. Does anyone recognise the
scene from a recycled children's coat hanger?


I went knowing I would have plenty of fun, but I didn't realise
how inspiring it would be to work with new mediums and in
the company of other artists.

Meike Den Otter along with Annamaria Mays (both local
Ipswich artists) were among the many talented artist's that
attended the workshop. It was great to be inspired by
such creative souls.

Here are a pair of earring's that I made from recycled materials.
I used coloured thick shake straws and buttons.

My very own creation, made from buttons, and coloured

Once the adult jewellery making workshop was complete, I picked up
my daughter and had a quick bite to eat at Cactus Espresso Bar.
It was then time for the children's jewellery making workshop
with Liana. Rose had a wonderful time.

I left her to come up with her own designs, as it is always interesting to
see what she can come up with. Rose made some lovely pieces.

necklace she had just finished. Sandrine Marsh may even recognise
the lovely brooch she gave me at the last boutique market.

Thank you to the Ipswich Art Gallery for organising such a wonderful
workshops and to Liana Kabel for her tuition, patience and inspiration.

I wish I lived in Wonderland

I don't quite know where to start.

You've heard me talk about the Ipswich Art Gallery before.
More specifically the "I wish I lived in Wonderland" exhibition.

I get so excited when given the opportunity to tell
people about how wonderful Ipswich is. And it's no surprise
that the Ipswich Art Gallery feature's regularly in my
conversation with friends, when I tell them about Ipswich.

Well, the Art Galleries "I wish I lived in Wonderland" exhibition runs until
1st November 2009.

The exhibit is designed for children and adults to appreciate.
With many activities scheduled to run over the coming months.

One I would like to talk to you about today is very special!

For those Liana Kabel fans out there, the Ipswich Art Gallery
will be holding 2 jewellery making work shops with Artist Liana Kabel.
One for children and the other for adults.


Liana's jewellery creations are the perfect compliment to the
"I wished I lived in Wonderland" exhibit.

Taking inspiration from the exhibit you will be
encouraged to create your own jewellery.
Materials are supplied, and you will have the
opportunity to learn direct from the master, Liana.

My daughter Rose and I will be attending both.
I can't wait to meet Liana and see what fabulous designs we can come up with.

Earthly Jewels

Julie Evans of Earthly Jewels has always had a love of expressing her colourful imagination and creativity through craft. Using mixed media is her favourite choice for one off creations.

Stones, Lace, Polymer Clay, Beads, Shells, and Felt are just a few items used to inspire something truly different. Earthly Jewels has found a niche in the market place of mass production by hand making detailed exclusive creations and distinctive pieces using this mixed media.The textural possibilities with all of these mediums combined, allows her to make jewellery, coffee purses, belts and other items - earthly, chunky wearable pieces of colourful art. As Oscar Wilde said, “Nothing succeeds like excess.”

Julie loves to lock herself away for a few hours in her studio and just focus on making a piece. She loves it when a stranger asks her where did she get that – she smiles and says "I made it."
Earthly Jewels will debut at this weekends Boutique Market at Portside Wharf.
